Gauntlet

Gauntlet is a new melee Strength hero in Heroes of Newerth Patch 1.0.0.  This hero was selected from the Hon Dream contest and is currently under further development so you need to select “Dev Mode” in Hon to be able to pick it.  Gauntlet has a hooking ability like Devourer and Pharoah (except that it’s vector-based), a couple of melee combat abilities, and a slowing, purging ultimate.  Here is a look at the abilities:

Infernal Instability (q)

Infernal Instability powers up your fist for bonus and splash damage on your next auto attack or use of Grapple (whichever you use your fist for first).  Gauntlet is all about the fisting.  Infernal Instability only lasts a few seconds, so you have to attack or grapple something fast or it will go away.  Remember to activate this several times in a long battle.

Grapple (w)

Grapple is a hooking ability like Pharoah’s ultimate or Devourer’s hook.  It is vector-based, sending a chain to the base of the vector and then outward in the direction the vector points.  This allows the user to bypass obstacles that may be directly in between Gauntlet and the desired target, such as creeps, allied heroes, etc.  In other other words, you can bend it around corners!

When Grapple lands, it deals damage and pulls both Gauntlet and the target towards each other until they are touching.  This is a good chasing ability and gets Gauntlet close enough to use his slowing passive or his ultimate more effectively.

Cripple (passive)

Cripple is a passive slow applied by Gauntlet’s melee attack and stacks with each hit to slow the target even more.

Gauntlet Blast (ultimate) (r)

Gauntlet Blast fires Gauntlet’s fist in a line where it slows and purges buffs from enemy units before returning to him like a boomerang.  Try to line it up like a Behemoth Fissure or a Tauren Chieftain ultimate in order to hit as many enemy heroes as you can in a team battle.
