Doctor Repulsor–HoN Hero Guide

Doctor Repulsor

Doctor Repulsor is a new ranged Intelligence hero in Heroes of Newerth Patch 1.0.7 equivalent to Storm Spirit in DotA.  Repulsor is a mad scientist who travels the map in his hovering contraption, manipulating enemies with his mastery of magnetics.   Repulsor is great at ganking, escaping death, and is one of the few Intelligence heroes that can carry his team.  Here is a look at his abilities:

Magnetic Contraption (q)

Leaves behind a magnetic contraption to explode and deal magic damage to nearby enemy units (and also wreak havoc on ear drums of people under 20).  This has a very low cooldown (four seconds) so it can be continuously spammed in combat to damage the enemy and keep applying Electric Frenzy to your attack.  These only last a few seconds so you can’t just lay them all over the map like Goblin Techie mines.

Opposite Charges (w)

Repulsor magnetizes an enemy and uses a magnet to pull them in, dealing magic damage.  It also slows the Doctor’s movement for 3 seconds.  This is a channeling disable like Pollywog Priest’s Shackle or Electrician’s Static Grip that holds an enemy while also preventing your own hero from doing anything else.  This is a good spell to use while your Magnetic Contraption is cooling down and you need another way to apply Electric Frenzy to your next attack to keep slowing enemies and keep them from escaping.

Electric Frenzy (passive)

Every time he uses a spell, the Doctor applies an electric charge to his next attack, which deals bonus magic damage in a radius and slows the target briefly.  Late game your goal is to use your other 3 abilities as much as possible in order to continuously apply Electric Frenzy to your attack so that the enemy hero you are targeting is continuously getting slowed and taking bonus damage so it can’t avoid death.

Ludicrous Speed (r)

Just like in Space Balls, Doctor Repulsor kicks it into Ludicrous Speed and travels to a target location while draining his own mana along the way. This deals a small amount of magic damage to any units Repulsor runs into along the way, more if he has traveled farther to get there.  This spell has no cooldown so if you have the mana you can keep using it over and over again.  With enough mana, you can travel anywhere on the map (and back) instantly.

Late game when you have enough mana to use it, this is a great ability to get your hero to an isolated enemy hero on the map and pick him off with a gank.  You can then make use of your other spells and Electric Frenzy to make it very hard for that hero to escape from you.  If a hero gets out of your attack range, all you have to do is use Ludicrous Speed again to get close enough to them to start putting more disables and slows on him again.  You can also use this to escape from enemy heroes so long as you have mana left.

Early Game

Recommended Early Game items:

+

Steamboots + Talismans of Exile

Steamboots are primo on Repulsor, adding +10 damage, mana, and attack speed in Int mode, and can be switched to Str mode for hit points for survival purposes.  Talismans of Exile are a cheap early game option to also give you some more mana and last hitting power.

Mid Game

Recommended Mid Game items:

or

Sacrificial Stone or Null Stone

Sacrifical Stone is the best option on Repulsor if you are getting kills.  This will provide you with limitless mana regeneration and an increase in your hit points and mana pool that makes hero killing and surviving in battles very possible.  A very good alternative to this is Null Stone, which is especially useful in situations where you are going against heroes with a lot of one-target spells like Succubus or Andromeda, etc.  Really you want to get any item that boosts your mana pool, mana regeneration, and hit points.  The Stormspirit item is okay since it takes care of 2/3 of these.

Late Game

Recommended Late Game items:

+

Kuldra’s Sheepstick + Harkon’s Blade

Kuldra’s Sheepstick again is another item that gives you a larger mana pool, mana regeneration, hit points (these 3 are key), and a great disable in addition.  Harkon’s Blade will seal the deal and have Repulsor spitting out insane amounts of damage.

A situational item choice would be Hellflower, if you really need that silence for example.  Some other workable alternative items are Frostwolf’s Skull and Frostfield Plate.

Counters

Use disables like stuns, Succubus’s ultimate, or Kuldra’s Sheepstick to keep Doctor Repulsor from zipping around constantly and wreaking havoc on your team.  If you don’t get him disabled he is very difficult to kill unless he runs out of mana.  Heroes and items that burn mana like Fayde and Nullfire Blade can help this happen.

Yea. Thats nice tutorial. I go always for Nullstone at first. It’s very nice in midgame and helpfull. U can without any care go gank. Example vs Hammerstorm u have a big chance with nullstone. After i choose most time between “harkon’s blade” or “Sacrificial Stone”. Sacrificial Stone if my team already DPS.. then i just hp and mana.

  • omar says:

i like to get 1 into magnetic contraption and 1 into opposite charge then max out electric frenzy. then i max out opposite charge, then magnetic contraption. also get ult whenever possible.

    • drake says:

that is awful. why would you max opposite charge. I max contraption and frenzy and the pull is situational. anyone soloing mid should take that build.

      • MrBigHuge says:

Sometimes, and the following is shocking so you should sit down, you go to gank a lane that needs the longer grip time on opposite charges.

  • Anonymous says:

Hellflower is strong on him isn’t it?

  • Dr Repulsor says:

I usually go with 1 set of blights 1 hp pot 2 marks of novice and a ward for bot or top lane. Then get two exile talismans and boots and upgrade to steam boots. Then its the usual nullstone and then work on hellflower. After its either a quick concede or a quick farm towards sac heart. Usually if the game keeps going I finish it off with a kuldras, but this is if the game is reallly clutched and either ends are having problems pushing each others lanes.

  • Anonymous says:

i agree with omar: magnetic contraption then electri frenzy then pull electric frenzy pull electri frenzy ulti electric frenzy. Because of the dps from this build i get bottle so i can spam contraption allowing continuos harassment with electric frenzy. item build would go bottle-steamboots-nullstone-hellflower-harkons-sacraficial

  • I Make You Rage Quit says:

This hero is arguably one of the best gankers in the game thus far because of his high mobility, good burst damage, and decent disable. There are different ways to skill build this hero depending on lanes and heroes on each team. Opposite charges is a must max skill early if you are mid solo and going for ganks. Item build-wise: 1x mark of novice, 1x crushing claw, 1x hp pot, 1x runes of blight, 1x ward of sight. Get 1x trinket of restoration to make chalice, 1x boots (regular is fine steamboots is a waste at this point), rush nullstone, finish steamboots, then hellflower (always good to have). Your final items should be Chalice, steamboots, nullstone, and hellflower. Anything else beyond that are considered luxury/situational items, which include harkons’, kuldra’s sheepstick, and sacrificial stone.

  • What? No... Take it from a pro Doc Repulsor says:

Fist skill contraption (Or pull depends if u ganker lvl 1 or not) then get Eletric Frenzy and then pull. Max out Electric frezy first. This will give you high damage during laning phase and ganking. You can out harrass easier in mid with it. When you go gank jump in, hit, contraption, hit, pull, hit, ult, hit, ult, hit repeat till dead. Then max your pull and then contraption. I almost always get hellflower first and almost never get nullstone. If your good at dodging like me you don’t need null…

  • isak says:

it is wrong that the opposite charges are a channelig abillity, u can move freely, cast first spell or ulti when and drag people *TO THE SAME PLACE U CASTED* opposite charges from. i also gotta say that u probably need another level of opposite charges at level 8, since you probably would be ganking alot to get max out of docs high damage.
for lategame items, add hellflower and frostfield plate. if the others got heavy auto attack carries like flint or chronos, get frostfield. it both boosts your armor and slows them down. also a nice activatable aoe slow/nuke. hellflower on the other hand is when you gotta deal more of the damage yourself. it gives alot inteligence (and therefore more damage, mana regen, mana and longer ulti) pure damage, TONS of mana regen and a nice silence and increasing of incomming damage on an enemy

  • 4kc says:

If u want to dominate the game with the doctor,
    check out my guide:
1st of all u need to get the mid lane. (very important)
Secondly, buy wards of sight during laning times
so u can control the runes and avoid being
ganked, especially when there are heroes like
andro, elec, behemoth, dev, and pebbs.
Note: Avoid ganking top or bottom lane!
    Unless its a sure kill.
Why? Because u need to farm fast.
You need to get Null Stone as early as possible.
Third, always keep in mind that
Doctor Repulsor is a strong hero
even, in laning. Haras ur lane match up.
If you’re skillful, no hero cant
beat u up in laning times.
Last thing, buy wards, but dnt put wards.
My team always telling me to put wards.
    They think they’re better? :) )
Here’s the thing, u buy the wards then let
ur teamates place them. Because u need ur 6 slots.

Now, here’s an item guide by 4kc :>
Before u leave the base, u should
    have bought these items:
    courier(dnt upgrade it yet)
    3 minor totem
    1 set of blight
    1 mark of novice
    early game items:
    courier-own, dnt share!!
    bottle
    power supply
    talisman of exile

By 20 mins ur inventory should have these items:
    Steamboots
    Null Stone
    Power Supply
    Talisman of Exile
    Bottle
Homecoming Stone (Bringing this is VERY important)

once u get null stone, it will be much easier for
    u to farm sheepstick

    27-30 mins items
    SheepStick
    Steamboots
    Null Stone
    Talisman of Exile
    Power Supply
    Bottle

Now, the doctor has 2 disables
Ur hero is almost unstoppable by now. :D

    44-50 mins
    Steamboots
    Null Stone
    SheepStick
    Hellflower
    Shrunken Head

    Super late game items!!
    Steamboots
    Null Stone
    SheepStick
    Hellflower
    Harkon’s Blade

    Then its GG!! :P
