“According to a micro blog update by Wanda Group’s director Sicong Wang, the company have officially acquired the very famous domestic gaming club in China – CCM.
As a result the club will now be renamed to “Invictus” and DotA, Starcraft II and Warcraft III rosters will continue to be a part of the club.
Wanda Group feels that competitive gaming is a strong enterprise and has great radical integration with their system and working.
There are unconfirmed reports that the club was purchased for 40,000, 000 Yuan which sums up to approximately $6.2 million USD.
The purchase comes following the announcement of the $1 million DotA 2 Championship announced yesterday to which Team CCM has an invite.”
Well 1 Million dollars is fine but it would be way better to have a 10 turnements with 100k.
Then again, its a marketing thing and I bet all nerds will be wetting their beds every night dreaming about winning 1 million fucking dollars. I certainly will.
Valve can count on other tournament organizers to host smaller sized events once the game is out and completely playable.
Valve is just setting the milestone for the game’s ~release~ and the game’s ultimate championship (maybe annual/biannual?). They can’t rely on anyone else to put together a payout of this scale — only themselves. And they’re the only ones that will benefit from investing on a prize purse of this size.
What would Valve have to be scared of? Seriously. I want to know what you think the game designer is afraid of here.
The real problem is not ‘where’ but WHO. ~Who~ are the brazilian teams? Can’t invite them if nobody knows about them. It’s no different from the American teams.
[...] snap, looks like Riot didn’t want to be the small son on the block. They just answered Valve’s 1 million dollar Dota 2 tournament with a big money drop of their own: The League of Legends Season Two prize pool will feature a [...]
