DotA 6.68 Released; changelog

DotA matched Starcraft 2′s release date today with a new version. Here’s the 6.68 Changelog from playdota.com:

If you try to tether a unit that is a outside its range (by up to 900) Io will latch on and pull himself closer to the unit.

Tether transfers other states on the hero to the allied unit. This includes Overcharge, Relocate and any time you regenerate hp/mp.

Note: Has a sub ability that lets you break the tether.

Spirits:
=========
Io summons 5 ancient Spirits over the course of 6 seconds; the Spirits dance around Io in a circle to protect him. If an enemy hero moves close enough to touch a Spirit, the Spirit releases its life energy in a burst, damaging and slowing all enemies in a 300 area of effect. Non hero units only take minor damage upon touching a spirit and do not cause them to explode.

You have two sub abilities. One to move them outwards and one to call them back in. You can stop them at any distance by toggling the ability order.

Overcharge:
============
Io draws on more energy than he can safely handle, granting him bonus attack speed, but draining 2.5% of his current HP and MP per second. If Io is tethered to an ally the bonus attack speed is also granted to that ally.

This is a toggle ability.

Relocate:
=========
Io temporarily relocates himself, along with any tethered hero, to the target location for 12 seconds.

There is a casting delay and the enemy has visual indicators on the minimap and the world of the teleport before it happens.

Static Storm:

Shadow Poison:
===============
Eredar casts forth a shadowy poison which deals 50 damage and afflicts all it touches for 10 seconds. If a unit is affected again in this duration, the toxin will be renewed and amplified exponentially. At the end of the duration, the shadow poison deals extra damage for each time it affected the victim. You have small vision over affected heroes.

Each stack increases the damage it would deal exponentially, up to 4 stacks.

Level 1 Per stack: 20/40/80/160 + 50 each further stacks
Level 2 Per stack: 35/70/140/280 + 50 each further stacks

Homing Missile:

================
The Gyrocopter launches a homing missile that will follow the target until it impacts. The missile is inactive for 3 seconds upon launch and then begins slowly accelerating towards the target. Stuns the target for 2.5 seconds and deals damage based on how much it traveled. The missle can be destroyed by 3 attacks from a hero or tower.

Maximum damage is dealt at 2000 distance traveled (does not increase beyond that distance)

The Gyrocopter enables all of its cannons, allowing its attacks to strike all enemies in a 800 aoe. Lasts for a limited number of attacks or 15 seconds. Does not work with illusions.

Your attack range is still limited to 375 range.

Can target trees to pick them up as weapons (same as Stone Giant from ladder). Makes your attack range longer, gives you bonus damage against buildings and 50% splash in a 300 aoe for 3 attacks. Adds an extra level of upgrade to your toss damage that your ultimate normally does.

Vanguard
- HP bonus from 300 to 275

* Added a new gold mechanic to the game

"Reliable Gold" – Any bounty you get from hero kills or from the extra "aoe kill gold" bonus (feature from few patches ago) is added to your Reliable Gold pool.

"Unreliable Gold" – It is everything else (creep kills, neutrals, etc).

Dying can only take away gold from your Unreliable Gold pool and not from your Reliable Gold. Buying items uses up your Unreliable Gold first before using your Reliable Gold.

An example: You have 910 total gold (500 Unreliable, 410 Reliable). If you buy Boots of Speed, you’ll have 410 total gold left (0 Unreliable, 410 Reliable). However, if you bought Chainmail, you would have 360 Reliable Gold left.

The process is seamless to the user, you won’t have to do anything extra to make it work. Your total gold is still displayed in the same place. Your Reliable Gold is displayed in your scoreboard title.

This is a new experimental idea that may be adjusted and tweaked over time depending on feedback and results after it is released. As always, let me know anything you want to see in future versions.

Buyback uses reliable gold first. There are some other plans and ideas for buyback adjustments in the future but I would like to see these changes stabilize first before considering further stuff. There may also be some other changes related to the aoe bounty in the future but I want to take it slow one step at a time and see how this change is reflected in games first.

* Support gold bounty gained for kills is now displayed ontop of each hero (not a change to bounty, but revealing the "extra" area bounty that was added a few patches ago, 16775)
* Minor adjustment (+50) to the extra aoe XP bounty

* About Phoenix

I had mentioned a Phoenix hero was in the works in the past. I’ve decided to save the hero for another update instead of putting him in this one. I want to work on him more.

Game Modes

- Added Dev Hero Mode
* When enabled, Dev Hero Mode allows work-in-progress “development” heroes to be played
* All future S2 Hero additions are going to be added as “dev heroes,” this allows us to get feedback on a large scale and evaluate balance before including the hero in the stable hero pool
* Dev hero mode must be enabled when hosting games. It can be filtered in the game list. Dev heroes will not be used in matchmaking or competitive tournaments
- Added new advanced game option “Tournament Rules”
* When enabled, allows the host to specify in the game lobby which team gets first ban
* Only affects BP and BD gamemodes
- Added “Hardcore Mode” advanced game option

Important Bug Fixes

- When using Runes of Blight on a tree, heroes will now approach from the correct side. (Will now no longer go all the way around a tree to eat it)
- Heroes are much less likely to keep blocking each other as they try to run past each other (HUGS!)
- Fixed ability tooltips sometimes getting stuck on screen
- Fixed an issue causing buying while dead to sometimes not work
- Abilities used from in the fog will no longer originate from the 0,0 position
* This includes Devourer’s Hook, Electrician’s Grip, Pollwog Priest’s Tongue Tied, Puppet Master’s Puppeteer’s Hold and Voodoo Puppet, and Witch Slayer’s Mana Drain

Matchmaking 2.0

- Matchmaking has received some serious revisions that should drastically improve match making quality. Please help us further perfect our match making system by giving it a try and leaving feedback on the forums
* Reworked how matches are formed to more consistently replace players who fail to load and to decrease time to find matches for players with exceptionally high or low SMR ratings
* Players new to matchmaking must complete 5 provisional matches, in which they will be matched with other new players. If not enough new players are available, they will eventually be matched with regular players.
* Players now have the option to set their initial standing according to general skill level, which affects the types of players they will be matched against. The three options are Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
* Solo matchmaking uses Banning Draft (BD)

Ingame Changes

- Added a new keybinding: Direct Pathing
* When held down and an order is given (Move, Attack, Cast, etc) will move the hero in a direct path towards where you click no matter what is in the way. Ignores cliffs, heroes, and creeps. Useful for chasing through the woods or pushing yourself against a cliff to cast into the river!
- Re-arranged some of the shop to put modifiers into the correct (bottom) shop. This includes all lifesteal items. Brutalizer and Lightning items are now in the Combat shop. Be wary of your hotkeys!
- If you buy an item on a courier then transfer that item to your hero, you can now sell that item for its full value within the 15 second sellback period
- Added game option “Minimap Rightclick” (default on). When disabled, the player cannot right-click on the minimap.
- The game will no longer display an incorrect disconnect message indicating that the hero was removed and assets distributed to their team if the disconnected player was a referee or spectator
- Fixed disconnect messages appearing twice when a player disconnects in game
- Calling a vote to remake, pause or kick (through the console) before the pre-match game phase will no longer work. (ie. only after the players are loaded into the map can they call these.)
- If displaying chat timestamps were enabled in game, various game messages sent to both teams were not being timestamped (disconnects, Kongor kills, Barracks destruction, etc). These messages now display the timestamp properly if the client has this option enabled.
- New death for the legion main building
- Finally took down our Christmas lights…

- Random small chest sound/model fixes
- The game option “Show exp numbers” is now on by default for new installations.
- Added an option “Center Camera on Respawn” that allows users to toggle whether or not the camera will automatically focus on their hero after respawning

Pre-Game Changes

- Hero icons no-longer react to mouseovers/clicks when there’s no hero
- The loading race values now start at 1 and end at 10, the old race values should no longer appear when loading the next game
- Pressing ALT in the game lobby will now toggle the chat mode between “Team” and “All” chat modes.
- Moved the Ping/Players/Version labels in the game lobby a bit to the right as we weren’t making use of the space and server names with long names like those we use for South Africa overlapped into these labels
- Voice chat indicator/mute button shows up in the hero picker/etc. now (on the inner side of the hero name)
- Pressing the “All/Team” button in the game lobby will now set focus to the chat input line
- Lobby now has sounds for actions (kick, join etc)
- Increase the max spectator slots to 10
- Fixed the Alternate Picking crash
- The host option “Disband” has been changed to “Disconnect”, Upon disconnecting the game server will assign another player as the host and print a message to the game lobby indicating the transfer of hosting privileges

General Changes

- Replays now begin recording during the picking phase
- Removed the “Tier” filters, columns and inputs from the game browser and create game interface
- Added filters, sortable columns and all inputs for Min/Max PSR to the game browser and create game interface
* Players may now specify a Min/Max PSR range when creating a game. Min/Max PSR games will appear normally as they would in the game browser and other players may join a game if their PSR falls within 2% of the range the game server Min/Max PSR is set to. (This means a player with 1471 PSR should be able to make it into a game marked Min 1500, and a 1734 player would be able to join a game marked as Max 1700, but those are the very edge of the 2% tolerance, so anything higher or lower would be rejected.)
- Games outside of a player’s PSR range are grayed out in the game browser similar to the way “No Leaver” games appear to a player with leaver status. If no range is specified when the game is created then no range is enforced. If a player is invited to a game, the server ignores the PSR restrictions for them allowing friends to play in games they may not normally be able to be playing
- Added Min/Max PSR to the /gi or /gameinfo commands
- The players PSR is now retrieved and stored locally on the client when logging in, and is accessible through the UI_CMD() GetPSR()
- Removed the ticks, grinds, blips and whatnot that were playing when the game started up
- Added an option “Disable Background Effects” that allows users to toggle whether or not all the background lobby effects and animations are played. (Credit to Pancakeslp for the original mod)
- Fixed some buddy request/add notifications playing sounds a bunch of times when logging in if a player had those notifications saved in their history
- The Notification Duration slider under options->interface now sets the duration (1-15 seconds) a notification is displayed for
- Fixed a number of incorrectly labeled tooltips on the options menu. Disabled the “Health/Mana Bar Scale” in the options

- Added new search support for filtering games by name:
* Added feature to allow players to type in multiple search phrases. By typing a search phrase and adding a ?|? the client will distinguish one phrase from another. The browser will then search the available games and show any games showing any one of the phrases separated by a “|”.
* Added feature to allow players to exclude certain games based on the search phrase. By typing in a “-” at the beginning of the search phrase the client will automatically filter any games with “Phrase” to not show up. Note that exclusion of search terms takes precedence over inclusion. (Excluding a term, and then trying to include the same term will cause it not to appear, ie ?noobs|-noobs?)
* The “|” and “-” can be escaped with a “\” should the player want to search on a game with the pipe or hyphen in it.
* All searches are color and case insensitive, and the order that the search phrases are entered have no effect on how they will display. So “1500|-no ab” is the same as “-no ab|1500″.

*Search Phrase: “1550|1600|1650|-no ab|-noobs” – This searches on any game with “1550″, “1600″, and “1650″ in the name, and if it has the words “no ab” or “noobs” in it it will not display.

The Swarm:

Target a point. A large swarm of creatures (12) will move towards that direction, each latching onto an enemy unit that it comes into contact with. Each unit will only get latched onto by one creature maximum. The creatures that don’t find a unit will just keep moving forward for a bit until they find something in that direction to latch onto. Visually it looks like the swarm is rushing forwards looking for unoccupied targets.

When a creature latches onto a unit, it will remain on that target until the creature is killed or its duration runs out. The creatures can be killed via attacks, but they require a certain number of attacks, regardless of damage, to get them off of you. Once they latch onto you, they slowly eat away at your armor and do minor damage. Again, they can be attacked while they are attacking you.

This game mode requires more teamwork and coordination than you might expect from your usual funmode.

After 10 minutes, 6 capture points appear at fixed locations around the map. Once the capture points are created, those areas are permanently visible to both teams for the rest of the game.

To capture a point, you have to be standing on it for a certain amount of time. The more heroes standing on it the faster you gain control over it. There cannot be any enemy heroes at a point you are trying to capture. With 5 heroes it requires 12.5 seconds to capture (60 for just 1 hero). Heroes cannot be invisible while on a capture point area. Illusions do not count as heroes when on top of a Capture Point.

There are 3 types of capture points, if you get 2 of the same type then they stack. Duplicates of each type are available on opposite sides of the map.

The game announces when an enemy captures a point. It is also visible on the minimap which areas you have captured and which areas the enemy has. When you capture a point, your team’s heroes gain bonuses to various attributes (described below)

Combat – CP Type 1 [Bonus Damage/Armor]: Increases your Damage by 14 and Armor by 4 (Twice of each if you have both)
Regen – CP Type 2 [Bonus Health/Mana Regeneration]: Increases your Health Regeneration by 4 and Mana Regeneration by 1
Speed – CP Type 3 [Bonus Movement/Attack Speed]: Increases your Movement Speed by 4% and Attack Speed by 12%

If you have two of the same type, you get twice the bonus. For example, if you have both Combat you get 28 bonus damage and 8 bonus armor.

Whenever your team captures or recaptures a point, all allied heroes in that area will get healed for 200 hp/mp, gain 150 bonus gold and bonus xp (4 creeps worth)

- Echo Slam’s unit search aoe increased by 75 (this is not the damage aoe, just the initial unit search aoe)
- Note: The main idea with most of these changes is to emphasis the timing aspect of the echo slam more. Some other buffs are done to compensate for the reduced power from the corpse count loss.

- Movement speed increased from 295 to 305
- Enchant’s slow effect increased from 10/20/30/40% to 20/30/40/50%
- Enchant’s slow effect duration decreased from 7 to 5.5 seconds

Pugna

Queen of Pain
- Scream of Pain now affects Decrepified units

Spirit Breaker
- Nether Strike now makes Spirit Breaker magic immune for the second that he is fading out during its cast
- Charge of Darkness decreased manacost from 120 to 75
- Charge of Darkness cast mechanic reworked

Charge of Darknessnow charges up in place for up to 4 seconds and then you move out at a speed relative to how long you charged it for. (Total movement bonus is the same as before, it just depends on chargeup time now instead of increasing slowly over time)

Slark
- Pounce Leash now gets removed if the target blinks or teleports away
- Shadow Dance passive no longer works if Slark is Doomed

Ursa Warrior
- Undid previous cast animation change on Overpower
- Fixed a bug in the recent Overpower rewrite that prevented it from being removed by purge/euls

Visage
- Soul Assumption damage per charge decreased from 130 to 110
- Soul Assumption manacost from 100/120/140/160 to 100
- Soul Assumption cooldown from 7/6/5/4 to 4
- Familiars Bounty reduced from 150 to 100
- Familiars now magic reduction from 70/95/95% to 95% at all levels

Scroll of Town Portal
- Double clicking on scrolls now automatically targets your fountain

* Switch now only works as long as the items of the leaver remain intact. Once someone leaves, the inventory of that hero becomes locked. Players can use an -unlock command, but once that is done switch cannot be used on that hero anymore. Once this feature is used enough to be considered stable, switch will be usable by default (-so mode won’t be required) with the restrictions described above. The gold that the leaver is carrying is also frozen until the hero is either unlocked or swapped.

* Added a new command, “-controloff”/”-controlon”, to disable control help in the game (to prevent stuff like adding summoned units to your current selection: Invoker, Techies, Lanaya, etc)
* Added a new test command to toggle creeps spawn off and on -spawnoff/-spawnon
