Vote Kick should only require votes from ONE team to kick a player

The purpose of Vote Kick is to remove a griefer from your team that is ruining your game.

This doesn’t work if your opponents (the other team) are unwilling to cooperate, since right now Vote Kick requires THEIR approval to kick someone.

Why should the other team have any say in whether your team kicks someone from your team?

What incentive does the other team have to HELP YOU WIN THE GAME by getting rid of a griefer?

If someone on your team is throwing the game, it is in your opponents’ best interests NOT to help you kick them so that they keep winning the game.

It’s clear that vote kick should only require votes from one team to kick a player from their own team. There is absolutely no reason the other team should be involved in these negotiations at all.

Let’s remember this is a COMPETITION and they want to WIN.

If more kick abuse occurs due to this, then let the Report a Player system sort it out.

Many less games will be ruined by having griefers successfully kicked than by having innocent people wrongfully kicked.

This is the greatest patch that has ever happened in HoN.  I haven’t even played it yet and I will say that.  Its suspiciously like S2 is just trolling us and didn’t actually put any of these changes in.  They even made matchmaking faster and re-recorded the Gladiator voice cuz it didn’t sound manly at all and was just annoying; I bet it sounds like Russel Crowe now I’m getting stoked.

Hypothetical

Last night the HoN community was treated to an epic match, EG vs SK in the losers bracket of the Gosugamers.net World Cup.  The stream was watched by more than 4000 live, and as usual breakycpk was getting spammed the entire match with personal messages, friend requests, clan invites, channel bans and the like.   Little nerds want to get on the screen.  This is something that happens pretty much every match since honcast began with breaky or whoever is doing the camera having to find some crafty way to hide or disable or log out from chat while still watching the match or some shit like that to keep kids from messing with them.  Last night breaky was getting shit slammed with messages even while being in Do Not Disturb and Invisible mode.

Let’s take a second and pretend S2 could look at this problem and find a simple solution, given that it’s been happening every single honcast match and so its about time they did something like make an announcer mode or some shit where all messages and invites are completely blocked.  For the sake of example, let’s call such a system “Vote Kick”.  With the “Vote Kick” system breakycpk would never have his matches ruined by trolls and could get on with his shit.  But lets also look at another system, involving the unique S2 method of dealing with a problem.  In this method, [S2]Maide comes on the intercom and warns all players that interfering with the GosuGamers livestream will result in account bans.  For sake of example, let’s call this “Report a Player”.  Surely, with the threat of getting banned looming over them, no one would be stupid enough to keep spamming breaky.  Right?

As a massive surprise to all of us sentient beings, the result was exactly the opposite.  When [S2]Maide warned people to stop spamming the stream, the spam did not stop.  The stream was still getting ruined.  In fact, the spam started coming in much heavier AFTER this warning.  Poor breaky’s screen was overflowing with messages!!  Breaky was wasting lots of human resources dealing with this problem because of the “Report a Player” system.  He was typing /clear every 3 seconds and getting super distracted from his match!  Fuck multi-tasking!!!  S2 was wasting lots of resources too!  Their staff was sitting there banning kids instead of working on more important stuff or going to sleep since it was 2 in the morning and they have to go to work the next day and not be a big slobbering mess.  Sure, it was nice that some miscreants were getting banned, but the spam kept flowing in!!  It was like an avalanche of shit, with nerds pulling out more and more accounts, and coming up with sneakier and sneakier methods to spam the stream, like going in invisible mode themselves so it just says shit like ” has banned you from channel ” a million times on breakies screen!  CHAOS.

As a result, one might postulate that directly dealing with problems “the Vote Kick way” is better than indirectly dealing with them “the Report a Player way”.

Rusty X picks up seven day ban on his smurf; but like any fat nerd, has backup account ready to go

Account Suspended: Ticket ID: 67565\r\nMatch ID: 18986788\r\n\r\nGM Explanation: Do not use your hero skills to grief your allies. Do not intentionally feed. Do not steal your allies items. : 150.7 hours remaining.

Heh don’t let this cute little encounter give you false hope that the Report A Player system is worth much.  While it’s nice to see some serious crush being delivered, as mentioned in title: most turds who care enough to troll someone have more than one account anyway and won’t miss out on the action due to a well-deserved ban.

The real point here is that Report A Player is inferior to the vote kick function as far as real-time problem solving.  If someone’s ruining your game, yeah it’s nice they may get some punishment for it, and that this may deter them from being a shitstain in the first place, however it’s not going to put an immediate stop to those shenanigans like kicking them from the game does.  Vote kick is efficient and effective in short-term problem solving, and swapping it out for the Report A Player system merely shifted power into the hands of griefers, instead of away from them.  On top of this, Report A Player requires an army of administrators to review cases and deliver punishment, while vote kick requires none.

Vote kick MUST be brought back to HoN.  We will keep bringing it up until S2 takes notice just like we did with the Hellbourne map advantage.  It makes zero sense removing an extremely successful and important feature that literally 90% of the community supported, just to bring in an unwieldy and less-effective one.  Just chalk it up to another lesson learned and make this right.  And you don’t really have to remove your Gamemaster staff or Report A Player system either–doesn’t have to be one or the other.  Just have them work hand in hand with vote kick.  If vote kick was removed because people were abusing it, which creates an unfriendly community for some, which honestly seems like the only possible reason whatsoever it could be removed, then set up a review system whereby Gamemasters can remove a kick leave from someone’s account if they were unjustly kicked (they weren’t afk or griefing).

You don’t just toss out something with a 90% approval rating.  Come on now.

Bring back vote kick?

Removing the vote kick function from HoN is one of the most worthless decisions S2 has ever made. They think they have it covered with the “Report a player” function, which is bullshit. No one is afraid of losing their account. S2 wouldn’t even take away people’s accounts if they were out of control. Case in point, KingRaven. This guy is a total asshole and flames everyone every single game yet will never lose his account no matter how many times he gets reported. No one signed a contract when they paid their 30$ saying they would be nice on the internet, and S2 isn’t going to steal anyone’s 30$ dollars by taking their account away for such reason. The “Report a player” function is a useless placebo that doesn’t get anything done.

The only way to prevent moronic behavior is to have an quick fix like vote kick. “Hey moron, stop feeding or we’ll kick you.” That takes care of things pretty fast, and if it doesn’t, you just kick them and play it out 4v5 and your game isn’t ruined. Instant solution. Worked fine and it’s mind-boggling that it would get removed.

There are all kinds of idiots in HoN that can ruin your game whether they are just plain terrible, feeding on purpose to boost Milkfat’s stats, illiterate, or just some vindictive troll who gets off on wasting your time (read: 30% of the HoN community). There’s absolutely no reason they shouldn’t be kicked from your team if a unanimous vote passes.

Anyways lets see how the rest of you feel and if its a landslide maybe S2 will have the sense to bring vote kick back.
